Standard laminate or SPC flooring: which material is suitable for which rooms?

The right flooring depends on moisture, traffic, substrate, comfort, budget, and the way each room is used.

Standard laminate or SPC flooring: which material is suitable for which rooms?

Standard laminate and SPC flooring can look similar in photos, but they behave differently in real use. The right choice depends on the room, moisture, traffic, substrate quality, budget, and desired durability.

The basic difference

Laminate is a familiar floating floor material that works well in dry rooms. SPC has a rigid mineral-composite core and is usually more resistant to moisture and dimensional movement.

When laminate makes sense

Laminate is often a good choice for bedrooms, living rooms, and dry spaces with normal traffic. It can be comfortable, affordable, and visually warm.

It is less suitable where moisture, frequent spills, or heavy wear are expected.

When SPC is the better choice

SPC is often chosen for kitchens, corridors, rental apartments, and spaces where moisture resistance and stability matter more. It can handle tougher everyday use, but it still needs proper installation.

Think by room

A whole apartment does not have to use one material everywhere. A bedroom can use laminate, while a corridor or kitchen may benefit from SPC. The decision should follow the real use of each room.

The substrate is critical

Neither laminate nor SPC is a magic fix for a bad floor. The substrate must be clean, dry, and level enough for the chosen system. If the base is uneven, the floor can move, click, open gaps, or wear faster.

Frequently asked questions

Is SPC always better than laminate?

No. SPC is more moisture resistant and dimensionally stable, but laminate can be a good choice in dry rooms with normal use.

Can flooring hide an uneven floor?

No. Both laminate and SPC need a properly prepared substrate. Unevenness can cause noise, gaps, and damage.

Where is SPC usually more useful?

In kitchens, corridors, and areas with more moisture risk or heavier traffic.
